CUSCO AND MACCHU PICCHU
Charlie and his best friend Pablo were bursting with excitement as they arrived in Cusco, Peru, ready to start their amazing adventure! The city was filled with colorful buildings, delicious smells from local markets, and the sounds of music in the air. As they explored, Charlie and Pablo learned more about the ancient Incas and how they built incredible structures high in the mountains. They tasted scrumptious new foods, like savory empanadas and sweet fruit juices, which made their taste buds dance with joy!
After soaking up the sights and sounds of Cusco, it was time for the biggest part of their journey—visiting Machu Picchu! They hopped on a bus that took them winding up the steep mountain, and with every turn, their excitement grew. When they finally reached the top, their eyes went wide with wonder. Machu Picchu was even more magnificent than they had imagined! The enormous stone walls seemed to reach the sky, and they could feel the magic of the ancient citadel all around them.
As they wandered through the ruins, they pictured the Incas who once walked there. They climbed to the Temple of the Sun, basking in the sunlight and the beauty of their surroundings. This trip was truly one of a kind, filled with adventure, history, and unforgettable memories!

Charlie and Pablo's next stop was the Urubamba River! They hopped onto a colorful boat that glided effortlessly over the water. As they floated down the river, they marveled at the stunning scenery around them. Suddenly, colorful macaws swooped down from the trees, their feathers bright red, blue, and yellow. "Look at those beautiful birds!" Charlie shouted, his eyes wide with excitement. The boys laughed as they watched the playful pink dolphins jump and spin in the river, making it a moment they would never forget.
After their exciting boat ride, Charlie and Pablo ventured into the enchanting cloud forest. As they hiked along the winding trails, towering bamboo trees surrounded them, creating a magical green world. The air was fresh, and vibrant butterflies fluttered around, adding splashes of color to the lush scenery. They spotted wildflowers of all shapes and sizes and even caught a glimpse of a spectacled bear, though they kept their distance!
The cloud forest was full of surprises, and the boys felt like real explorers. They learned about the unique plants and animals that called this forest home.

THE NAZCA LINES
Charlie and Pablo's next exciting destination on their journey was to see the famous Nazca Lines! These enormous drawings etched into the desert were a big mystery, and the boys couldn’t wait to see them from the sky. So, they hopped into a small airplane, and as the engines roared to life, they felt like real adventurers ready to uncover secrets!
As the plane soared high above the shimmering desert, Charlie and Pablo gazed out of the windows, their eyes wide with amazement. Below them, they spotted giant figures, like a hummingbird, a monkey, and even a majestic whale! “Look at that one! It’s so big!” Pablo exclaimed, pointing excitedly. The lines seemed to tell ancient stories, and the boys imagined the people who lived thousands of years ago creating these incredible designs.
The pilot circled around, giving them the best views. The boys were thrilled to learn that no one knew exactly why the Nazca Lines were made. Was it for celebration or for the stars? With their minds full of ideas, Charlie and Pablo took lots of pictures, wanting to remember every moment!

High in the green mountains of Peru, hidden among clouds and surrounded by forests, sits a place called Machu Picchu (MAH-choo PEEK-choo). It’s a stone city built hundreds of years ago by the Inca people, one of the most powerful and smart civilizations in South America.
The name “Machu Picchu” means “Old Peak” in Quechua, the language spoken by the Inca. No one is completely sure why the city was built, but many believe it was a special place for Inca kings or maybe a quiet spot for priests and scientists to study the stars, grow plants, and live close to nature.
Machu Picchu was built around the year 1450, during the rule of Emperor Pachacuti, who helped the Inca Empire grow big and strong. What’s amazing is that the city was built without machines, cranes, or even wheels! The Inca carefully carved and fitted each stone together so perfectly that many of the walls are still standing today. Some say you can’t even slide a piece of paper between the stones!
The city had houses, temples, farming terraces, and even places to study the sky. The Inca were brilliant builders and scientists. They figured out how to grow crops on steep mountain slopes and used clever ways to bring water through stone channels.
For a long time, Machu Picchu was hidden. When Spanish conquistadors came to the region in the 1530s, they never found it. So the city sat quietly, wrapped in vines and mist, for hundreds of years.
Then, in 1911, an explorer named Hiram Bingham visited Peru. A local farmer showed him the way to the secret ruins. When Bingham saw the city, he was amazed! That moment helped the world learn about this hidden wonder.
Today, Machu Picchu is one of the most famous places in the world. People hike up the trails to see its beauty and learn about the amazing Inca who built it so long ago. It’s now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which means it’s protected and treasured as a very important part of human history.
Even though no one lives there anymore, Machu Picchu continues to inspire young explorers, just like Charlie in his adventure. It reminds us that with creativity, teamwork, and love for nature, we can build incredible things.
