Rewilding the Iberá Wetlands

In the heart of Argentina’s Iberá Wetlands, a once-degraded ecosystem is being infused with new life. Jaguar in the Shadows follows the compelling adventures of Elena and Enzo Friuli, siblings whose passion for conservation leads them back to their ancestral homeland. Elena, a biology and ecology student determined to restore balance to fragile ecosystems, and Enzo, a tech-savvy photographer with a knack for storytelling, embark on a transformative six-week rewilding project.

Guided by the charismatic conservationist and rewilding expert, Bianca Alvarez, the Friulis dive headfirst into the wetlands’ vibrant world, brimming with caimans, capybaras, marsh deer, and the elusive jaguar, Tupã. Together, they navigate challenges that test their skills and resilience, from earning the trust of skeptical ranchers like Rafael Gutierrez to implementing innovative solutions like flashing solar lights and drones to protect livestock. Alongside Ana, Rafael’s determined daughter, they witness the wetlands’ revival and inspire a community of young and old to embrace coexistence with nature.
